Austria Philharmonic 1 oz Silver Coin

The 1 troy oz Austria Philharmonic silver coin was first introduced in 2008 and features musical instruments. Since then these coins have been issued each year making it an annual choice for bullion investors.  The coin contains 1 oz of .999 fine silver.  The front of the coin features the Great Organ of the Golden Hall, a tribute to the Vienna Musikverein. The reverse of the coin features an array of musical instruments including, a cello, bassoon, harp, Vienna horn, and violin.  This coin is the most popular in the European silver market. Another interesting aspect of the coin is the smooth rim, compared to the reeded edge of other silver coins. Furthermore, this Philharmonic silver coin is backed by the Austrian government.

In Addition, the Austrian Mint produces a gold philharmonic coin with the same design as it’s silver counterpart.  The Austrian Mint first produced the gold philharmonic in 1989 with a face value of 200 shillings.  Later, the coin was changed to 100 Euros in 2002 with the adoption of the euro currency.
